Isocryl by apple sutures is a poly glycolic acid braided and coated with polycaprolactone and calcium stearate attaining in-vitro strength of 83% in 2 weeks. It is non-antigenic, non-pyrogenic and elicits only a mild reaction during the absorption process. It is completely absorbed in 60-90 days and is sterilized with 100% ethylene oxide. It is available in sizes, 10-0, 9-0, 8-0, 7-0, 6-0, 5-0, 4-0, 3-0, 2-0, 0, 1 of violet and undyed colours and apart from these, the package life is of 5 years and the packaging size is 1x12.

| Caution |
Any absorbable suture is not advised for cutaneous closure and sub-cuticular closure because it draws moisture from the healing tissue to the skin and allows bacteria to migrate into the wound.
Also, poor perfusion of skin and subcuticular layer especially in elderly patients will further delay the suture absorption. For these reasons , Plastic surgeons and other surgeons in developed contries still use nylon sutures for skin and subcuticular closure for excellant results. |
